Moong dal Rasam. Pesara Pappu Charu Recipe also known as the Moong Dal Rasam is a very comforting and delicious lentil soup. The rasam has healing properties because the dal is infused with turmeric and cooked together with ginger, green chillies and coriander. Rasam is a versatile dish and every region in South India has it's own twist.

Ingredients of Moong dal Rasam

  1. You need 1 cup of cooked moong dal.
  2. You need 1 of tomato chopped.
  3. It's 2 tbsp of Rasam powder.
  4. It's 1-2 of green chilli.
  5. You need 1 of lemon.
  6. You need to taste of Salt.
  7. Prepare as needed of Little jaggery.
  8. It's 2 tbsp of grated coconut.
  9. It's as needed of Fresh coriander leaves.
  10. Prepare as needed of Few curry leaves.
  11. It's 1 tbsp of ghee for seasoning.
  12. Prepare a pinch each of Hing (asafoetida),mustard and jeera (cumin) for seasoning.

Here comes my ginger rasam :-) Traditionally we make rasam with toor dal, and we call it as paruppu rasam. But this time I decided to keep it light so went with moong dal. Moong dal has its unique flavor, and you can taste that in this rasam. We like the combination of moong dal and ginger.

Moong dal Rasam instructions

  1. In a pan pour little water add chopped tomatoes,coriander leaves,curry leaves and little turmeric powder.Allow it to boil..
  2. Now grind coconut and green chilli with little water.In this grinded paste add water and filter it. Here we have to add only coconut water not grinded coconut..
  3. Now add cooked moong dal in the pan and stir.Add more water as required.You can add water as you wish and maintain the consistency.Now add salt,rasam powder and little jaggery.Let it boil..
  4. Now add grinded and filtered coconut water.Stir well..
  5. Remove from flame.For seasoning - In a small pan add little ghee.Add mustard seeds,jeera and hing.After they splutter off the flame..
  6. After the rasam becomes little warm then Squeeze the juice of lemon in the rasam and add the seasoning to the rasam..
  7. Delicious Rasam is ready..

Take a vessel and add moong daal, water, and turmeric into it. Cook on a low to medium flame until dal is completely cooked through. After dal is cooked, mash it well.
