Ingredients of Sabudana Upma/Sago Pearl's Upma
- It's 2 cups of soaked and drained Sago.
- It's 2-3 of Green chillies finely chopped.
- You need 1 tsp of salt.
- Prepare 1 tbsp of ginger juliennes.
- You need 1/2 cup of roasted peanuts.
- It's 2 sprig of curry leaves.
- You need 1 tbsp of Bengal gram.
- It's 1 tbsp of Urad dal or Split Black gram.
- Prepare 12-14 of Cashewnuts lightly roasted.
- You need 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder.
- It's 1/8 tsp of asafoetida.
- It's 2 tbsp of chopped coriander.
- It's 3 tbsp of oil.
It is generally made during fasting days like navaratri and Shivaratri. It's a great substitute breakfast idea to the usual Rava upma. It is a great snack idea too. This recipe is made using Tapioca pearls (sago), javvu arisi in Tamil.

- Wash and soak Sago in considerable amount of water for at least 2 hours. This makes them super fluffy and light..
- In a pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and dry red chillies. Now add bengal gram along with Urad dal, chopped ginger and green chillies. Saute for a while and then add salt and red chilli powder..
- Now add the soaked and drained sago to it. Mix well and cover with a lid. Let it cook on a low heat for about 15 minutes. Keep stirring it in between to avoid the formation of lumps..
- It will be done in 15 to 20 minutes. There is no need to add any water. Mix roasted peanuts in it as a final step. Garnish with coriander leaves and some lightly roasted Cashews for a perfect crunch and texture. Enjoy!.
