Vegetable Rava Upma. Vegetable Rava Upma is a traditional south Indian breakfast dish that is made from semolina and cooked along with vegetables and seasonings. This dish is popularly called as Khara Bath in Karnataka. Ingredients of Vegetable Rava Upma
- It's 1 cup of Beans, chopped.
- Prepare 1 of Carrot, chopped or grated.
- Prepare 1 tbsp of Mustard seeds.
- You need 1 cup of Sooji/Rava.
- It's 1/2 of Capsicum, chopped.
- You need 1 of Onions, chopped.
- You need 1 tsp of Coriander Powder.
- You need 1/2 tsp of Garam powder.
- It's of Salt as per taste.
- You need Pinch of black pepper powder.
- Prepare of Peanuts (unsalted).
- You need of Fresh Lemon juice.
- Prepare Leaves of Fresh Curry.
- Prepare 1/2-1 tsp of Red chilli powder.
- It's of Water as per requirement.
- Prepare 3-4 tbsp of Oil.
- It's Pinch of Hing/Asafoetida.
- You need 1 of Green chilli, chopped.
Mix vegetable upma is variation to plain upma (savory semolina porridge). In this upma I'm adding lots of veggies like potatoes, green peas, carrots, cauliflower, french beans etc in this version. Upma is a go-to breakfast option for most of the Indian households. It not only looks dreamy because of the fluffy cloud-like texture but the added flavor with all the amazing vegetables makes it delectable.
Vegetable Rava Upma step by step
- Firstly, roast Sooji/Rava on medium-low heat in a pan around 5 or 6 mins. Stir continuously. (Don't make it brown, be careful). Once done, transfer Sooji to bowl..
- Now in a same pan, add 1 or 2 tbsp of oil on medium low heat. Add peanuts, roast and stir them well. Transfer peanuts to another bowl. Add some salt to it..
- Now in a same pan, Add oil (if required) and add mustard seeds and let them crackle or pop..
- Then add chopped onion, green chillies, curry leaves. Sauté them for few mins..
- Add all the chopped veggies and salt. Add 3 cups of water..
- Add lemon juice and mix it well. Let the water come to a boil..
- Once the water comes to a boil, start adding the roasted sooji, slowly..
- Mix Sooji and cover the lid. (Low flame). Let it remain like that atleast for 3-4 mins. And turn off the heat..
- Now remove the lid, sprinkle roasted peanuts on upma and your Delicious Rava Upma is ready..
